International mass

Once I stepped into the entrance, I was told that I would be responsible to read a prayer in Chinese, as today's was an international mass. Short notice again and I was anxious to know what I was going to read so that I could prepare a bit and I supposed to read it in Mandarin.

But then I was handed a slip writing in English! I had to translate it myself! I thought there should be some specific sentence structure for prayer and I couldn't make a complete sentence at all. What a shame if I said something strange in front of other Chinese?

At the end of the mass, Fr Leo asked who else was from greater China. Including me there was only two. If I knew it earlier than I wouldn't have to be such anxious as no one would know what I was talking about even I made joke and said 'happy birthday' on the stage. =P

The prayer was:
"For all people in the helping professions, may they give their time and skill wholeheartedly, we pray to the Lord-"

What is the best chinese translation of it?
